Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For A Travel Trailer With A 630lb Tongue Weight

Updated 07/15/2024 | Published 07/07/2024

Question:

We have a 29 ft. tt that we tow with a ram 1500. The tongue weight is 630 lbs. and the gvwr is 7495. Would this wdh work or is it to much for our setup. Ive heard too heavy duty of a hitch system doesnt work well, same with too light of a system. Thanks

Hey Craig,

You're absolutely correct that too heavy or too light of a spring bar capacity with your weight distribution hitch can cause issues. It's best to go with a system that has your tongue weight around the middle of its capacity range to accommodate when the trailer is heavier with more gear or lighter on your way back home. The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ90-00-1000 you referenced has a 700 - 1000lb tongue weight capacity so it's going to be a bit too heavy for your trailer. The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA94-00-0800 would be a better option since it has a 400 - 800lb tongue weight capacity range.

I've attached a short video below where Brent will go over installation of the hitch.
