Question:
Hi, looking to install this on 2024 Limited Subaru Forester. Have a few questions. 1. Will this work for this car? Or will it be too big for this vehicle. Looks like my towing cap. is 1,500 lbs. 2. will i need separate break light. Like the yakima LitKit? 3. can i start off with just one cargo and add the second one later? Thanks for your answers.

Hey Stephen,
Good questions, and the answer is yes, your 2024 Subaru Forester can definitely use the Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System w/ 2 Enclosed Cargo Carriers # Y74ZR.
The towing capacity of the car actually won't matter at all, it's the tongue weight capacity of the hitch that is important. This system has a total weight of 157 lbs, with the carriers having a combined 180 lb capacity, for a total possible weight of 337 lbs. So long as your trailer hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 337 lbs or more, you can fully load up the # Y74ZR.
Regarding lights, I'm not familiar with the LitKit, but you for this system you would use the License Plate and Tail Light Relocation Kit for Yakima EXO System # Y74VR.
You can definitely get away with not having it if you go with the single cargo carrier but may need it for both. I can't tell you with any certainty if it'll be required on your Forester as we haven't test fit it on that vehicle.
As for if you can start with one carrier and move up, yes you can. What you'd need to start is the Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier # Y62VR. After that if you wanted more you would add the TopShelf for Yakima EXO SwingBase # Y94VR and Yakima GearLocker Enclosed Cargo Carrier # Y44VR.

Hey Stephen, how did the Yakima EXO setup work out on your Forester? I'm curious if you ended up adding the second cargo carrier or kept it with just one for now. Your experience could help others planning a similar setup.
