How to Tell if 2022 F-350 Will Have Enough Turning Clearance with Blue Ox Gooseneck Adapter Hitch

Question:

I have 2022 F350 with 6.5 ft bed and Ford factory gooseneck/hitch setup in bed. Will the Blue Ox BXR2100 hitch work with a 2024 KX Durango 301RLT 5th wheel? I’m not sure how to determine which trailers might have a front cap that will work with this hitch and allow a near 90 turn radius. Thank You

Hey Brian, thanks for reaching out!

Your 2024 KX Durango 301RLT 5th wheel has a tapered nose so that will help you with the clearance you're talking about. With that being said, you'll still need to be pretty cautious using the Blue Ox Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter # BLU52XR with your 2022 Ford F-350 having the shorter 6-1/2' bed. The only trucks I know of that has been able to maintain enough turning clearance with the short bed configuration are the GM trucks.

To be able to determine if you'll have enough turning clearance with this hitch you can use the following formula:

(A + B) - C = Clearance

A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab (or gooseneck hitch ball in your case)
B = Length of offset (the Blue Ox has a zero offset)
C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)

You need at least 4" of clearance to be able to make a 90 degree turn.
