Review of B and W Trailer Coupler BWRVK3500

Today we're going to review part number BWRVK3500. This is the B and W Companion goose neck to fifth wheel trailer hitch adapter. It is the dual jaw design. It has a 20,000pound gross towing weight capacity. This trailer hitch adapter will convert your B and W turnover ball goose neck hitch, that we do sell separately on our website, to a fifth wheel hitch, which will let you tow your fifth wheel trailer. It is a rail free design, which means this will drop right into your truck bed.

There's a post that is connected to the hitch base right down here. That is a square post which will drop into the square opening on turnover ball goose neck hitch on your truck and then you'll lock it into place like you would your goose neck ball and then you'll have a fifth wheel hitch in your trailer. Now it also has these plastic footpads, which will attach to the bottom of each base here, and as you can see it is formed to fill the truck bed corrugation to help create a better fit. Now it does have the one inch thick dual jaws here. These will provide a 360 degree jaw to kingpin contact, which will give you less rattle and more security than the slide bar jaws. So basically, right back here, I'm just going to turn it around a little bit, so you might be able to see.Right back here there's a clip and a pin, that if we pull the clip off the end of the pin that will release the handle. When you push back on this handle you'll be able to see, there it is closed, and when you push back on it, those dual jaws will open up and you're ready to back up into your fifth wheel trailer. As your kingpin comes in here, it will push on the back here and will automatically push the handle closed and wrap around the kingpin.

With it closed you can just take the pin and clip, drop it into place and that will lock it into place. Now you can also use a padlock on here, if you like. We do sell those separately. If you need extra security you can drop a padlock in there or just use this pin and clip. Now this does use a cam action latching handle that will help prevent binding.

It is simple to release even on unleveled terrain. Basically what it does is this handle will allow you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. Now sometimes when you're on uneven terrain there might be some binding that will occur in there and when you open this handle, to the open position, those jaws might still be wrapped around the kingpin, but because it is a cam action latching handle what will happen is there is no pressure because this handle is unlatched there will be no pressure on those jaws, so when you go to pull away that king pin will push open those jaws and slide out. That way even if you're on uneven terrain it won't give you any binding. A very nice feature. Now it does have a fully articulating head, which will ease hook-up and help limit chucking.

So, basically right here you can see the articulating head will pivot front to back and it will also go side to side. This head part will go side to side. It is hard to move right now because there's no weight on it. Basically it's setting, this hitch head is sitting on these pivot arms and there are polyurethane bushings right under here, so that's what will give you the movement. Now you can also get improved cab clearance with the four inches of front to back adjustment and you'll get those adjustment by these pivot arms here on the side. Basically these pivot arms, if you can see, they're sort of triangular shape, so itdepends on how youmount them to the side plates here. Now on these side plates there's holes drilled and there's about five rows of five holes, so about twenty-five different holes. So if you have the holes on your pivot arms, you'll just line that up, so you can move it front to back with about four inches of movement. And you can also turn those sort of triangular shape, turn themaround to even gain more adjustment if you need, and then also you depending on how high you bolt those holes, you can also gain three height settings to fit your application also. Basically, the hitch height adjustments go from the lowest, about16 1/4and the highest about 18 1/4. That is measured from your truck bed to the hitch head, so you can adjust that height by how you install it on here. Now a nice feature is if you go on the product page for this part number,we do have a nice diagram there that will show when this is mounted in each different position, what the dimensions you will be gaining in height and in the fore and aft movement. You will get the quiet rattle free ride because this it's riding on those polyurethane bushings. Has a nice wide stance base, as you can see, which offers the strength and stability. Again these plastic footpads will mount to the bottom to create a better fit in your truck bed. It is a very quick and simple installation.Basically this RV post, right down here, this square post, will install in the ball hole of your turn over ball goose neck hitch, and then you'll turn the handle to lock it into place and you'll be ready to go. It does have a gray powder coat steel finish, which is corrosion resistant. It is made in the U.S.A., and again this has a gross towing weight capacity of 20,000 pounds, vertically load limit of 5,000 pounds. And again we mentioned the hitch height adjustments, anywhere from16 1/4to 18 1/4, and it comes with a limited 5 year warranty. Now just one other thing I want to show you, when you go if you want to remove this after your done using it and you want to remove it from the bed of your truck. You don't have to remove all the weight at one time. What you can do is if you pull this clip right out and then pull the pin out, pull the clip over here, pull this pin out, then what that will do is you'll be able to take just the head off the bushings. Basically if you just pullup on these handles, these handles will release underneath the bushings and you'll be able to lift this whole head off, and you'll save you some of the weight. All you'll have left is the pivot arms and the base. So it will save you some of the weight when you are remove it from your truck bed. One other thing to also look at, when you do take this hitch head off, the very bottom, if you turn this over, at the very bottom at the center, there is a grease zerk fitting and you do want to lube that with grease every once in awhile because that will lube this large nut and bolt here that gives you the side to side adjustments on the head. That should do it for the review on part number BWRVK3500. The B and W Companion goose neck to fifth wheel trailer hitch adapter with a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. .
