Is the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel-Gooseneck Pin Box Approved by Lippert for 1621 Pin Box

Question:

Hello, Ive readon your site that the Gen Y gooseneck to pinbox conversion does not void the Lippert warranty. However, everything I come across online, and from Lippert, says they only approve Reese Goosebox as authorized replacement. I prefer to have the simplicity of the Gen Y and not have to make adjustments as the Reese would require. But dont want to risk any warranty issues. Could you direct me to where you came up with the info that the Gen Y doesnt void the warranty? Thanks. FYI its a 1621

I reached out to Lippert and as of right now they have not tested or approved the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel-Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert 1621/1621 HD - 21K - 3.5K TW # 325-GH-8045 as a replacement for the 1621. However, this does not mean that they have not tested or approved other Gen-Y products for other pin boxes.

You are correct, the only tested and approved replacement for your Lippert 1621 is the Reese Goose Box like the # RP85FR. If there was damage to the frame that could be linked to the use of the Reese Goose Box it would be covered. If the same happened with the Gen-Y then Lippert would not be able to financially assist with repairs.

That sucks, I was told it would be covered! Now I wonder if I just wasted money on my extended warranty on my camper!??

@TommyH did yours come with the Gen-Y? This information is a little dated at this point and there has been some back and forth with Lippert about it. There are some campers rolling out with Gen-Y pin boxes from Brinkley which seems to negate the Lippert claim that they void the warranty. We have gotten conflicting answers when we asked Lippert about this so I would contact them directly to see what they say.

@TommyH unless something already happened the odds of having a problem that would be tied to the pin box are pretty low so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
