Thank you for your recent purchase which included Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring Harness # C55529.
The best way to troubleshoot this or any other trailer wiring harness is to use a circuit tester such as the # PTW2993 from Draw-Tite. A tester will allow you to verify that the proper signals are both entering and exiting the converter module.
Since your trailer's brake and taillights are working properly you can first focus on the green and yellow wires on the left-hand (input) side of the converter box. Disconnect the trailer. Apply the Sportage's right turn signal and test the green wire where it enters the converter box. Your tester should detect an intermittent (on-and-off) blinking signal. Test the yellow wire/left turn signal in the same way.
If you do not have the correct signals entering the module then you need to check both the ground wire (to confirm it is tightly affixed to a clean bare metal surface) and the connector to confirm it is fully seated to the mating plug on the vehicle. Check for any signs of corrosion on the contacts; even slight greenish or whitish discoloration can indicate enough corrosion to interfere with signal transfer. Clean any suspect contacts with a spray-on electrical contact cleaner (available at most auto supply, electronics and hardware stores).
If you do have the correct turn signals entering the box, you will then move on to test the right-hand (output) side of the module. Apply the grounded tester again one at a time to the pins for both the green and yellow wires while the right- and left-hand turn signals are engaged. If you have blinking signals on these wires, then the converter is functioning properly, and the issue is downstream in the trailer connector or wiring. If the correct signals are entering the box but are NOT exiting the box, then the converter is damaged.
Again, inspect the trailer-side connector for any signs of discoloration or corrosion on the contacts and clean or replace as necessary. You can also check the trailer wiring itself for any loose ground wires near the connector or the lights assemblies themselves.
