How Large Of A Spare Tire Will The etrailer Trailer Hitch # e72AR Allow For On A 2024 Acura RDX

Question:

Car: 2024 Acura RDX AWD with T155/90D17 spare tire. Info on e-trailer hitch for this vehicle states spare tires larger than 18inch cant be stored under vehicle. Is that 18inch the wheel diameter or spare tire diameter? Can my spare still be stored under vehicle if I install this hitch?

Hey Kurt,

The tech note on the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e72AR is talking about wheel diameter and not overall diameter of the wheel and tire. Since you have 17" wheels you shouldn't have an issue with a full-size spare.

My 2024 Acura rdx has spare tire with an 18 to 18 1/2" outside diameter rim. With the overall rim and tire the diameter is about 28 to 28 /12" and comes close to the rear, black underside bumper. I would like (if possible) get a "class 2" ( 1 1/4") receiver. The book says the "compact spare" is a T155/90D17 101M, or "17 X 4T". The regular tire rim outside diameter is 20" (20 X 8J). Is this that difficult or just me? Thank you! LBD

@LarryD Yeah Acura likes to make things difficult! Since your 2024 Acura RDX has an 18" spare you'll be able to store it underneath your SUV when you install the Draw-Tite Hitch item # 36114. This is a class II hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. It has a 3,500 lbs towing capacity and a 350 lbs maximum tongue weight. What are you planning on using the hitch for?
