Curt Brake Controller Wiring on GX470 Showing Disconnected, Short, & Blank Screen

Published 05/28/2024

Question:

I recently installed this on my GX470 rust free with recommended wiring harness and get a short signal. Checked all the wires and all seems ok. The blue one gives 12 V with the brake pedal pressed and I get 0 ohms from the cab to the connector. Since the short signal goes and I couldnt find anything else I hooked up the trailer and after calibration the brakes seem to work correctly and the error goes away. Disconnect the trailer and the error comes back. So when I start the vehicle it says not connected, then short, then blank screen. Any thoughts on that?

Hi Dave,

Sorry to hear of the trouble you're having with the Curt TriFlex NEXT Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV, as those are quite a few issues. It's pretty odd to have all of that at one time, but it's pointing to bad wiring to the 7-way on your 2007 Lexus GX470. I think it's very likely a ground issue or damaged brake wire going to the 7-way. That is going to be very difficult to trace but there is wiring going to the 7-way you can take a look at, or go to the dealer and have them examine it if you're having trouble. You can try unplugging your factory 7-way and looking at its connectors and wires as well, and if there is any damage you can replace it with part # HM43374 for an easy fix.
