Question:
I have a triaxle trailer. I tested voltage at the plug and the wiring before the axles and i have 11.5 V with the truck not running. As soon as I hook up the three axles my voltage s to 6 V. Is this normal?

Expert Reply:
As you've read, the voltage should not be just 6 volts so it's definitely not normal. There can be voltage drop-off if you don't use the proper wire, and we recommend using 10 gauge # 10-1-1.
It could also be a weak ground. The magnets should be grounded to a clean, corrosion free bare metal surface near the magnets so definitely check, as this is generally the problem for issues like this.
