How Much of the Trailer Tongue Needs to Go Inside Each End of a Fulton Trailer Tongue Hinge Kit
Updated 05/02/2014 | Published 04/30/2014 >
Question:
What is the minimum amount of trailer length I need to install the coupler on the boat side of the hinge? I bought an older trailer with my boat and someone made a homemade pivot that failed. I have 2 inches from the cut to a weld point where the sides of the trailer meet the tongue. Can I still use the item with only 2 inches of room?

Expert Reply:
The trailer tongue will need to go in at least 3 inches on each side of Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit, # FHDPB330301 to retain strength and structural integrity. You may be able to have another inch of the same size tubing welded to the short end so that it gets the full 3 inches. Welding should be performed by a qualified professional welder.
