Hey there Bob; thanks for the question, and the 18,000 lb capacity B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3255 will work for you so long as 17,500 lbs is the fully loaded weight of your trailer and not the dry weight.
Basically, does your trailer have a 17,500 lb GVWR? If so then yes, you can definitely use the Patriot # BWRVK3255.
The hitch just needs to match (or ideally exceed) the GVWR of your trailer. So for example if the GVWR was 18,500 lbs a great option would be the 20,000 lb capacity Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16140.
