Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch Setup for 2022 Ram 1500 With 5-1/2' Bed

Question:

Looking at getting my 2022 Ram 1500 Set up With a fifthwheel hitch. I assume I will need a slider since it is a 5 1/2ft bed. What is the best set up that I can use. Whether its a slider hitch or a side winder. I want to make sure everything is 100 safe and compatible. Thank you!

Since your 2022 Ram 1500 has the 5-1/2' bed the best option is the Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM8550040. This is the only slider designed to work with a bed as short as yours. It will provide you with 22-1/2" of additional clearance you need to make tight turns. You will also need base rails # DM8552032-71. If you don't mind gray, don't have an EcoDiesel, and want to save a little money you can use the # BWRVK2604 instead.

This may seem like an expensive setup, but you're looking at the same or more with a decent fixed 5th wheel hitch and a rotating pin box like the # RP77FR. The only other thing to consider would be the weight. The Autoslide is pretty heavy at 300 lbs.

If weight is going to be an issue then a fixed hitch with the rotating pin box would be the best option. Something like the B&W Patriot # BWRVK3255 only weighs 137 lbs so it is more manageable. This would still require the base rails listed above along with a custom wedge # SWW-06. If you go this route, you will also need to identify your pin box to select the right sidewinder replacement.
