Capacity of Pro Series 500 lbs Cargo Carrier on Trailer Hitch Rated for 400 lbs Tongue Weight

Question:
If my hitch tongue weight is 400lbs and the cargo tray/basket extends up to 2ft wide, what is the max load of the basket?

The capacity is still 400 pounds. Even though the Pro Series cargo carrier, # 63153 is rated for 500 pounds, you still go by the lower capacity of the trailer hitch at 400 pounds. But you also will want to check the vehicle owners manual for its tongue weight capacity. If it is lower than 400 pounds then you go by the lower capacity.
Proper loading of the carrier will also be required. If all the weight was on one side of the carrier it can damage the carrier or hitch. I have included a link to the installation details and a link to a video review of this carrier for you.
