How To Run 7 Way Wiring From Truck Bumper To Slide-In Truck Bed Camper
Updated 02/28/2024 | Published 02/27/2024 >
Question:
I am looking to install a slide in camper in the bed of my truck. I have a 7 pin trailer connector in the bumper, and am looking for an extension cord to connect the camper plug at the front of the bed to the bumper ~8. I need the round pin connector on both sides not flat blades. Please let me know if you have a product that would work, or if I will have to custom fabricate a cable.

It's hard to say without any photos of your current plugs/connectors. Some slide-in campers like Lance use a proprietary plug that we wouldn't have. Your truck's 7 way is likely a standard one that has flat blades. You could use an extension like Hopkins 7-Way RV Style Connector with Molded Cable - Trailer End - 8' Long - RV Standard # H20046 and run the bare wires to your slide-in camper and rewire it to the camper's plug.

Understood. The 7 way plug on my bumper has pins, not blades, so I suspect it is an aftermarket solution installed by the previous owner. There is a smaller plug behind the bumper connecting the vehicle wiring to the 7 way plug (as well as a separate 5 way plug in parallel), but I have not been able to identify a standard connector that is compatible. Is there a directory of the different standard plug types, preferably by manufacturer, to help me identify the correct plug/harness?
