Question:

2023 Ford Transit 350HD cutaway van with a coachman 22-foot Motorhome on top. AWD version. has 4-way connector installed already and a tow mode able from driver display. Is there a factory brake controller installed, how do I tell? I think not. Is there a factory brake controller plug accessible under or near the dash to provide the new installed aftermarket controller with power, ground, brake lite feed, output to rear brakes, ect. How do I find out? Based on above, do you need more data, or is there enough to make a determinization on what wiring hardware I needed? Want a 7-pin connector with supporting brake controller as finished product. Regards, John

Hi John,

If you have a factory brake controller you would see something like I have pictured below. The + and - will adjust gain and the other buttons slide together for a manual override. With you only having a 4-pole connector I doubt they installed a brake controller since it wouldn't have a way to send the brake output. I recommend looking around by the 4-pole wiring to see if you have a factory 7-pole wire harness connector so that you can install the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C55774. If not then you'll need to install the # ETBC7, which will have a wire to run up to the brake controller.

For the brake controller you can use the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. There isn't a plug-and-play wire harness available so you will have to use a universal wire harness and do some splicing. The blue wire on the harness will go to the wire from the # ETBC7, the white to ground, the black to power, and the red to the cold side of the brake light switch. This wire is typically a purple/white wire for Fords but it wouldn't hurt to doublecheck with a tester # PTW2993.
