How to Determine Bolt Pattern for a Trailer Wheel Replacement
Published 04/17/2014 >
Question:
I have 4.80/4.00-8 tire/wheels on my trailer and want to go up in size for off-road clearance. I purchased 4.80-12 tire/wheels and they dont seem to fit properly. Is this due to the hub size?

It sounds like the new 12 inch wheel and tire combo you have is designed to fit a different bolt pattern hub than what your trailer currently has.
The bolt pattern of a wheel tells us the number of lugs (or bolt holes) and the diameter of the circle the lugs sit on. For example, a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern lets us know we need a wheel with 5 lugs that are spaced out evenly on a circle that has a 4-1/2" diameter.
Most likely your trailer either has a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern or it has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern and your new wheels are different. To determine your bolt pattern on your wheel and on your hubs check out the FAQ article I attached.
Once you determine what bolt pattern you need you can email me back and I will help you pick out the correct wheel and tire.
