Question:
I have a 2015 GMC Canyon. I am looking to purchase a complete kit to have it setup for flat towing. I have one concern that Im hoping you can help with. According to the owners manual, I need to disconnect the battery prior to flat towing. So I have the battery disconnect you sell in my shopping cart. But then the Brake Buddy classic system that Im looking at needs to have power to operate. If the battery is disconnected, how do I power the brake buddy classic?

The Brake Buddy supplemental braking systems, like the Classic 3 # HM39494 you were looking at, would all be wired directly to the battery before the disconnect switch. The ring terminal for the Brake Buddy would go on the battery post first, then the battery disconnect switch # RM-766 which would then connect to your factory wiring for the Canyon that was originally on the positive battery post.
Brake Buddy systems also include a charge line to keep the towed vehicle battery charged while towing so you'll want to choose a wiring kit that has a 6-pole socket so that you can hook up the charge line. For this I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267.
If you haven't fully decided on your tow bar and baseplate then I recommend going with the etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit # e98966 and etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e34ZR. This tow bar comes with safety cables bracketed to the arms and a rod to keep the excess umbilical cord up off the ground so that you aren't having to worry about them dragging on the ground and getting damaged. The head/shank offers a bit of adjustability to help stay level without having to purchase a separate hitch adapter.
