Question:

I plan to cut off the female end of your flat four harness and wire into a 7 pin female connector that is mated to my tent trailer connector. That will take care of most of my lighting. I will also need to locate a 12volt wire for charging the trailers house battery and also locate a wire for backup lights. Any suggestions? We have wiring kits available that will not require you to cut off the 4-Way connector. The kit is part # ETBC7. You will use the included bracket and mount the 7-Way somewhere near the hitch. It has a connector for the 4-Way on the vehicle to connect to. From there, you will have to connect 4 wire leads.

The first is a white wire, and it should be connected to the vehicle frame as a ground. The black wire will be run to the car batter with a 40 amp in-line breaker. This will be the power source for charging the battery if the trailer uses a standard 7-Way connector. From here you will need to find what pin on the trailer side connector is wired to the reverse lights. Typically, this would be the purple wire on the # ETBC7, and it is wired to the center pin on the connector. Make sure you have a circuit tester on hand, like part # PTW2993, to check to see pin of the 7-Way is connected to which color wire. I have included a link to a trailer wiring diagram that lists the standard wiring for a 7-Way. The orange on the diagram is the purple on part ETBC7.
