Question:

I have spent the summer successfully cartopping my 12 ft., 34 lb. Solo Vermont Packboat 37.5inch beam on my CR-V with Rhino Rack aero bars, cam straps, and fore and aft tiedowns. Ive recently decided to firm things up for long hauls and have been checking out load stops and canoe haulers. The catch is that my boat gunwale lands on the bar directly over the leg attachments, so a clamp-on style load stop wont work. I know the Malone Bigfoot Pro has a fit kit to use in the aero bar slot, so thats an option. But I would like the convenience of easy adjustment like the Rhino Rack Load Stops RRRLH2. Before I commit to them, I need to know the dimensions to be sure theyll work with my boat and crossbar widths. I know they are 5inch tall. What is the length not thickness of the foot that fits into the aero bar slot? Looks to be about 3+-inch but Id appreciate an absolute measurement. Also, I haven't seen these marketed for use with canoes/boats, but is there anything about them that would render them unsuitable for that use? For what its worth: I put a short length of pool noodle on my wooden gunwale where it contacts the crossbar and where the straps contact them, so the fact that the RRRLH2 is not padded makes no difference to me. You're pretty on the money, the Load Stops for Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars or Pioneer Platform Rack # RRRLH2 is 2.76" long, 1 1/2" wide and 5" tall.

As for use with canoes you aren't actually going to be able to use these to secure your canoe because they aren't going to offer enough support and stability, so I'd actually recommend using the Lockrack Adjustable XL Watersport Carrier - Canoe, Kayak, or 2 SUPs # LR54FR instead.

This carrier can be slid into the t-slots on your aero bars just like the load stops, has an adjustable width range of 28" to 48", and is designed to be used with canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddle boards.
