Troubleshooting Kwikee Step that Hit Ground and Stopped Working

Updated 10/10/2023 | Published 10/09/2023

Question:

New question concerning installation of new step motor....Previous owner was demonstrating coach, when slowly underway, steps extended and caught on the ground and no longer responded to electrical commands. Numerous interlocks should never let this happen. Would it be wise to arbitrarily change the Controller?

Helpful Expert Reply:

You can try a new controller but I don't know if that would be my first thing to try. You might see if something got bent when it hit the ground. Look under the step and see if something happened to the linkage or gear that the motor runs on. Since you the step moved slowly you might also check to see if the battery is charged as well.
