Is 12K Weight Capacity of Durabilt Safety Chain Connectors For One or Both Connectors

Updated 12/17/2024 | Published 09/20/2023

Question:

Is the 12,000 lb rating for one or both of these?

Expert Reply:

The 12,000 lb weight rating of the Durabilt Safety Chain Connectors # DU35QR is individually as well as both of them. It's a little confusing, but essentially you don't double the weight rating of these types of connectors when more than one is used.

George in the video for DU55QR states each link is 1200 lb load limit per link. Is the WLL for the DU35QR 12000 lb PER link or 12000 lb total for BOTH links? Thanks.

@Alex It is a little confusing so I reached out to my contact at Durabilt to get an explanation straight from the source. Each link is rated for 12,000 lbs, but when it comes to safety pieces like this you don't want to double the rating when they are used on separate chain loops for a trailer. If they're linked together they will have a higher rating, but when using one for either side of the hitch receiver you want the max trailer weight to be 12,000 lbs. This ensures that if one safety chain side fails the other will still hang on to the trailer.

@JonG Thank you. I wanted to confirm that each link was 12,000 lbs. I know that they cannot be aded together but wanted to clarify for others and your explanation is spot on - each link is 12,000 lbs but two are NOT 24,000 lbs as each link is independant when attached to different hitch safety chain loops.
