Question:

I have a 14K utility trailer with 8 bolt drums/hubs. Same bolt pattern as my old 2009 Chevy 2500 HD Was it 8x6.5? Was great to carry ONE spare tire that fit both truck and trailer.. New Chevy is 8x180 bolt pattern. Is there some place to buy new trailer drums that fit 8x180? Will trailer industry ever go to 8x180 hubs? I am NOT interested in an adapter due to fender/clearance issues. Can you help? Thank you.

Helpful Expert Reply:

The 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern is basically universal for trailer wheels. At least for the last few decades, there are really no other 8 bolt trailer wheels in circulation. I do not see any signs of this changing any time soon. For sake of simplicity and consistency I hope it stays that way. I am not aware of anywhere that would sell an 8 x 180 mm trailer hub. With your new truck you will need to carry two separate spares I am afraid. If you need to add a spare to the trailer, we do have the # TR-2, which will hold an 8 on6-1/2" trailer wheel.
