I have the Sears X-Cargo Carrier. Trying to attach to the roof of a 2020 Ford Escape with no bars. Do I need bars? What hardware do i need?

If you have no crossbars then you'll need to add some. I recommend checking out the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars # TH711500 with the Evo Clamp Feet for Thule Crossbars # TH710501 and the Fit Kit for Thule Evo Clamp and Edge Clamp Roof Rack Feet # TH36RV.
These crossbars are going to work with your Ford's naked roof, measures 60" long x 3-1/8" wide x 1" tall, and has a dynamic weight capacity of 165 lbs.
