Can Plastic Lock Cores on Rhino-Rack Vortex Crossbars Be Removed

The plastic locks that came with my rhino rack do not lock. I can just pull them out. Am I missing something? Thanks

Are you talking about the plastic lock cores that came on the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars you purchased from us about a year ago?
The plastic "locks" are really just in place to help keep the end caps from flying off of the crossbar during travel. I'm sure you can punch out the lock core but then that defeats the purpose.
If the plastic tab on the inside that "locks" the end cap into place is damaged then you can replace your end caps with the same plastic locks as part # RRVA-SEC4 or you can upgrade to metal locks with part # RRVA-LEC4.
Metal locks are more durable so it might be worth going that route if you think you might damage the plastic locks again.
