How do I find out which error code is causing the 5 lights on the left hand side of the display to flash and the on off button not to engage.

Thanks for the picture!
Since you're getting the lights on the left side to flash but none of the lights on the top you need to press and hold all 4 directional buttons at one time for a few seconds and release. This will clear the issue.
If you are actually getting the side lights flashing and the lights on the top are coming on as well, you'd need to set the zero point calibration by pressing the retract all button 3x or by pressing auto and retract at the same time.
