Tips For Finding Brake Controller Port In 2010 Toyota Tacoma w/ Tow Package I h

Question:

Question on Electric Brake Controller install I have a 2010 Tacoma, with I believe the factory installed tow package. There is a 7 pin connector on the rear of the truck that looks factory installed, along with a 7 pin that also looks factory installed. I want to install an electric brake cohntroller to pull my Casita Spirit 17foot camper. Ive been watching the videos you have on your site for installation on other Toyota models and years - there doesnt appear to be one for my specific model/year - and all of those indicate connection ino to a loose 5 pin connector located to the left of the parking brake. Ive searched all over that area, including pulling off the plastic panel and the quarter panel cover, and cannot find that loose 5 pin connector I do have a loose 12 pin connector all female receptors in 2 rows of 6 pins. Is it possible the design changed? If so, what can I do about that?

It is really common that the brake controller port in your 2010 Toyota Tacoma is hidden behind a lot of wires, but the connector you're looking for is not a 12 pin connector.

Check out the below video where Joe walks you through how to find it, as in the video it was hidden as well.

If there is no connector then your only option is splicing in the brake controller with some # 10-1-1 to run from the blue wire on the back of the controller to the brake output pin on your 7-way connector, and the # 5506 to run the power and ground from the controller to the battery. The last connection would be the red wire to the cold side of the stop light switch in your truck which you can find with a circuit tester # PTW2993 to find the wire that only has power when the brake pedal is pressed, and connecting it with a quick-splice # SWC502905-1.
