The Autowbrake Electric Brake Controller part # 3430001 is a proportional controller which means it applies the brakes in an amount, proportional to the force of how the brakes are applied in the vehicle. It uses an inertia sensor inside the controller that senses deceleration. The brake light circuit simply wakes the controller up and tells it to start reading the inertia and apply the brakes accordingly.
