Question:
I’m interested in the bandw continuum hitch but need the extended hitch to be able to let the tail gate down. I have an extended hitch already but can you tell me if the mounting holes that the head goes on is the same as other hitches. Or do you know the distance between the holes so I can measure mine to see if it will work with my existing hitch?

Expert Reply:
The B&W Continuum Weight Distribution System part # BW78FR is not compatible with any other weight distribution system shank. The hole spacing on the shank for the head adjustment is 1-1/2" on center which is more than the 1-1/4" industry standard therefore, the two are incompatible. I measured this for you. That said, B&W is currently testing a longer shank for this system that will allow you to lower the tailgate. It's however not yet available. In the meantime, you could install a jack on the outside of the frame with one like the Trailer Valet 5X Swivel Jack and Trailer Mover part # STC-V211 which also doubles as a mover, just keep in mind the trailer will be a bit less stable while parked with a jack in this location.

Cooper, I am in the same boat as Steven. When is B&W expected to have the longer hitch head shank completed? Is there any way to be kept apprised of updates from the B&W team?
