Can I use the Erickson Retractable Tie-Down Strap, Part #EM34417 without bolting it down? In other words, go around our camper van ladder and around the loadI am attaching to the ladder with the strap, and then hook the S hookon the end of the strap to the hole on the ratchet housingthe hole that was intended for use in bolting the ratchet down with?

Yes, you can use the Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps # EM34417 with running the straps hook into the bolt hole. I do not see any warnings/notes from Erickson saying they cannot be used in this manor. Personally I feel the Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps # EM34415 would be a better option as they are the same strap with a 2nd hook on the other end. This will give you an additional 1' of length giving you 10' instead of only 9'.
