How to Determine if Yakima EXO Swing Out Carrier Will Allow Rear Vehicle Door to Open
Published 02/01/2023 >
Question:
Hello, I have a 2000 Ford Excursion. With the lower doors that open, and then the top window that opens up, Im wondering if the swing away rack will allow all 3inch doors to work. Im most specifically interested in the bottom half door on the passenger side, and if will be able to open completely. I have looked at bumpers for my excursion that use the door hinge for support and swing out Aluminess bumpers, and the doors would not be able to open all the way. Mainly wondering if this system would have the same issue. Thank you!

On the Yakima EXO Swing Out Carrier part # Y44ZR that you referenced there is a distance of 9-1/2 inches from the bottom of the shank to the very top so to determine if the rear door of your 2000 Ford Excursion would open you'd need to measure from the bottom of your hitch opening to the bottom of your rear door edge. If that distance is greater than 9-1/2 inches this rack would allow it to open when the rack was swung out.
