How To Choose Correct Hitch Ball Size for Trailer

Question:
Im the Band teacher. The Auto Shop teacher says I need a 2 7/8 trailer hitch ball to tow the Band Trailer. I cant find a 2 7/8 ball on your site. Is he wacky?

There are only three standard trailer hitch ball sizes used here in the USA; 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16". The 1-7/8" is common for trailers up to 2,000 lbs, the 2" is common for trailers up to 5,000 lbs, and the 2-5/16" is common for trailers larger than 5,000 lbs. If you don't know what size you need, this info will be stamped into the coupler on the trailer. I have attached a full list of our hitch ball options for you as well.
Please note, the hitch balls do require a compatible ball mount with the correct rise/drop for your vehicle and trailer. We have some good starter options like the Curt Towing Starter Kit part # C45041 but in order to be exact you'll need to measure using the article below.
