Question:
I know a friend who has a 2006 ford escape, wrecked, with a Reese hitch that is salvageable. I am picking up my new to me 2014 ford escape this week and I will definitely need a receiver installed to pull my boat. Which class of hitch do I need for my escape to pull my bass boat? Also, will the 2006 fit on my 2014?

I have a great hitch for your 2014 Ford Escape but one from a 2006 will not fit your vehicle. They did a major model change in 2013 and the hitches from the previous model years are not compatible.
I recommend the etrailer Hitch item # e98866. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Escape with included hardware. This is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. It has a 3,500 lbs towing capacity, and a 350 lbs maximum tongue weight which can be increased to 5,000 lbs and 500 lbs when used with a weight distribution system.
You will want a class III hitch to pull your boat trailer. I have linked an installation video below.
Since you are planning on towing you will also need a wiring harness item # 118566 and a ball mount kit item # C45534.
