Can 30 Amp Circuit Breaker Be Used for AC Power From Progressive Dynamics PD1620A Inverter

Updated 11/14/2022 | Published 11/13/2022

Question:

I see the Progressive PD65FR PD1620 has an AC pass through amperage of 30 amps e.g. 30 amps pass through from shore power. However in the installation instructions they show 20 amp AC breakers between the Inverter AC input and output to the AC sub panel. My Grand Design 2023 341RDS has two 30 amp breakers installed for the pre-wired inverter installation with a sub panel bus for the circuits to be powered by the inverter. Since the AC pass through is 30 amps I should be able to leave those breakers at 30 amps vs 20, to leverage the full 30 amps when on shore power, correct? FYI I have the following installed from the factory, pre-wired for an inverter: PD9260 Converter PD55K100 AC Load Center

Yes, since the Progressive Dynamics Pure Sine Wave Inverter w/ Transfer Switch - Remote # PD64FR is rated for 30 Amps pass-through you'll be able to continue using your 30 Amp circuit breakers for this application. The instructions are showing the 20 Amp breakers just as a general example for one of their lower-tiered systems so you'll stick with the rating of the unit and just use the installation photo as an example for routing the wiring. Hopefully this helps clear things up a bit!

Attached is a sample installation video for you to check out.
