Question:
We currently have a Falcon 2 tow bar with a 6,000 lb. rating. Can we use it to tow our new 2013 Chev. Silverado 1500 4x4 that has a curb weight of 4,800 to 5,000 lbs.? Also what base plate will we need for the truck?

As long as the total weight of the truck and all of its cargo, if any, weighs under the 6,000 pound limit of the Falcon 2 tow bar then you can use it to flat tow your 2013 Chevy Silverado. But first you will need to check the owners manual for the proper procedures for flat towing the truck.
For base plates you can use Roadmaster base plate kit # 3154-1. These base plates feature removable arms so the base plates are almost invisible with the arms removed. They are also compatible with the Falcon 2 tow bar. If you do not already have safety cables you will need to add some using # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
For lighting, there are several options, see link to the right. I like the magnetic kits such as # RM-2120 because they are easy to set up and use and do not require cutting into the vehicle wiring for installation.
Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being flat towed. I recommend the InvisiBrake # RM-8700. Once it is installed you will not have to touch it again unless you want to adjust the braking pressure. To use this or any braking system you will also need a stop light switch kit # RM-751421 to get the proper signal to the braking system. And if you use this braking system with the magnetic light kit, you will want to ground the light kit white wire to the vehicle frame or negative battery terminal instead of through its 4-Way connector.
I have included some helpful links on flat towing to the right for you.
