Availability of Higher Rated Leaf Spring for Trailer Axle that is 7k

Updated 10/10/2022 | Published 10/09/2022

Question:

My 2012 Forest River Cardinal 3550 RL 5th wheel appears to have a nearly flat leaf spring. Other three not quite so bad. The equalizer on that bad side is way low on the end connected to the flat spring and way high on the other spring. The axles I believe are 7,000. Springs are 5-spring. Looking at replacing with the Morryde SRE 4000. My RV mechanic recommends going to a heavier 6-spring. Trailer’s GVWR is 16,600. Your thoughts on this type of upgrade and 6-leaf spring?

It seems like it wouldn't be a terrible idea to go with a higher rated leaf spring on your trailer. To pick that out that I would need to know the length of your current spring unless you were willing to move hangers which your mechanic might be open to. The only higher rated spring we have than 7k is the 8k part # DX74XR which is 24-7/8 inches long.

The correct MORryde SRE4000 would depend on the wheelbase of your trailer. We have the # MR47ZR which is for 35 inch wheelbases and part # MR97zr which is for 33 inch wheelbases.
