Question:

my truck does not have a tow package or a 7 pin conector it has a 4 pin conector i am buying a 35 ft travel trailor and cant find what i need i need brake controller,wire harness,conector,ect can anyone help

The Tekonsha P3 brake controller you referenced would be an excellent choice for you. The P3 is extremely easy to use, and has controls that are intuitive and simple to understand. The diagnostic feature is unique in that any problems are indicated in plain English (or French or Spanish, if you prefer), instead of an error code that needs to be looked up.

Even though your Tundra does not have the tow package, it might still be equipped with the brake controller connector under the dash. If the connector is present, it would be located above and to the left of the emergency brake pedal, as shown in the accompanying photo I have edited for you. If you find the connector, you can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to see if it is active. Of the four pins, one should show a constant 12-volt power supply, and one pin should show voltage only when the brake pedal is pressed. If the connector is active, you can use the wiring adapter part # 3040-P to connect the brake controller to the vehicle. You would need to cut the blue wire on the harness and use a length of 10 gauge wire, part # 10-1-1 to run the brake output circuit to the rear of the vehicle.

We offer an adapter, part # 37185 that would convert your existing 4-pole into a 7-way. You would simply plug the adapter into your 4-pole and attach the ground wire to the truck frame which would complete your lighting circuits. The blue wire on the adapter would connect to the wire you ran from the brake controller, the black wire would be extended to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp breaker (# 9510) if you need 12-volt accessory power on the trailer. The purple wire is usually used for reverse lights on the trailer. If needed, the wire can be tapped into the reverse lamp circuit on the vehicle. If not needed, the wire can simply be bundled up out of the way.

If you do NOT find the connector under the dash, or it you did find it and it is not active, you would need to hard wire the brake controller using our Brake Controller Install Kit, part # ETBC7. The kit includes the adapter I mentioned above, as well as all needed wire, hardware and circuit breakers.
