Can OEM Size 225/65R17 Tires on 2008 Honda CR-V Be Replaced by 235/65R16

Updated 11/29/2013 | Published 11/28/2013

Question:

I have a 225/65R17 for my summer tires, but would like to replace this by 235/65R16 for my winter tires. Will this be allowed, if I get a 16inch rims for my 2008 Honda CRV. Please advise. Shri.

I reviewed an online manual for the 2008 Honda CR-V and on page 340 it indicates that replacement tires should be the same 225/65R17 size as supplied as OEM equipment. You may want to review your owners manual for any restrictions related to tire size. The manual I found does not indicate that the alternate 235/65R16 tire size is compatible with this vehicle. If you manual does not indicate anything you can speak to your local dealership for guidance.

The Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains you referenced, part # PW1042, will fit multiple tire sizes on a range of passenger vehicles whose limited wheel well clearance requires use of such low-profile S-Class chains. These Glacier chains will fit both tire sizes you reference.

The CR-V online manual indicates on page 307 that only cable-type S-Class chains with rubber tensioners be used, and only on the front wheels. The Glacier chains # PW1042 and rubber tensioners # PW99 will fit your CR-V unless your manual indicates otherwise.

You might take a look at the two linked articles that provide a lot of information about tire chains.
