Wondering if the X Mount could be mounted so that bike rack hangs verticaly on garage wall instead of horizontally?

Yes, per the manufacturer The Swagman X Mount Bike Carrier Storage Rack # S80940 can be mounted on the garage wall vertically instead of horizontally if your wall can support it.
The rack is constructed of a solid steel and has a 100 pound weight capacity. It will fold against the wall when not in use.
