Fixed or Slider B and W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch for 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 with OEM Pucks

Not sure what is considered a short bed size of the truck to see if I need the companion slider ?

For the 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 the short bed length is the 6-3/4 foot bed length and the long bed length is 8 foot. Typically the slider version of fifth wheel hitches like the Slider Companion part # BWRVK3775 is used with short bed trucks, but we have found is that if the trailer has a tapered nose and an extended pin box you can still use a fixed hitch like the Companion # BWRVK3710 without truck cab to trailer nose clearance issues around corners.

This is mostly due to trailers now being designed for better turning clearance as most would rather not have a slider hitch and also in your case the short bed GMC Sierra is a bit longer at 6-3/4 feet instead of 6 foot or 6-1/2 foot.

Both hitches I mentioned are the correct fit for the OEM prep package of your 2022 GMC Sierra 3500.
