Can I Use a 2" Hanger for a 1-3/4" Wide Leaf Spring
Updated 08/15/2022 | Published 08/12/2022 >
Question:
Hi, how tight does the shackle have to fit the spring? can you get away with a 2 1/4 shackle for a 1 3/4 spring eye if you squeeze it in? will the sliding part be too sloppy? Its a really light weight application

You want to make sure the hangers on your trailer have the same width as your leaf spring so if your leaf spring is 1-3/4" wide then you don't want to use a 2" or 2-1/2" wide hanger. It's true that you want the hanger bolts installed somewhat loosely so you leaf spring isn't binding, but you definitely don't want that much side to side play for your leaf springs inside your hangers.
You either need to use wider leaf springs or you need to use smaller hangers like what you see with the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs # APS4. This kit comes with hangers that have a 1-3/4" gap on the inside, use 3-1/8" shackle straps, and come with 3" long x 9/16" diameter shackle bolts.
Attached is a review video for you to check out. If you can give me some more details about your trailer setup I can make more of a specific recommendation.
