Question:

Hello - just bought new 2022 Yukon but it does not have the oem brake controller which I hate. I haul a tandem axle trailer with electric brakes occasionally. It states it has tow package or something to that regard which I assume is just hitch etc. can you share what I need to get the brakes part of the equation

Having the tow package on your 2022 GMC Yukon definitely makes life easier. You do already have a hitch installed, but you also have a port under the dash that is specifically there for a brake controller to attach to. With that being said, I have two options listed out below. Both are good options, but one will be a more economical option, and one will be a more premier option.

For the economical option, you will want to check out the Tekonsha Primus IQ TK90160. This can handle trailers with brakes on 1 to 3 axles and is nice and easy to use. It also includes a Lifetime Warranty, which is very nice. The # 3016 pigtail will also plug directly into the port under your dash and then the back of the controller, making the install quick and easy. However, this is a classic "Knee-Knocker" style controller. I am quite tall at 6 foot 5 inches and these really do get in the way, in my opinion.

With that said, the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR will install much more out of the way and will have no such problem. The main unit will install in an out of the way space of your choosing, and then the control knob will be the only visible part, again installed in a place of your choosing. This does mean you need to drill a small hole for the install, but I think it's worth it. You can still use the # 3016 pigtail to plug into the vehicle's port, but you will also need the Redarc Tow-Pro Wiring Adapter # 331-TPH-017 to adapt it to the controller.

So in conclusion, either of these would be a nice controller. I just prefer the Redarc option.
