Is Trailer Wheel PSI Capacity The Valve Stem, & Valve Stem For Over 100 PSI

Updated 07/13/2022 | Published 07/12/2022

Question:

According to Johnathans video I should be able to upgrade my stock Alloy wheels on my RV to handle over 100 PSI by changing to the AM valve stems, is this true. He said basically that the weak point is the valve stem. Is there a 6 lug wheel available for this tire or any 17.5 inch tire anywhere?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Correct; the valve stem is exactly what is limiting any PSI on a trailer wheel, so for PSI over 100, you would need to get a valve stem rated for that. So you can indeed use the following:

- Americana Metal, Bolt-In Valve Stem # AM20906

The # AM20906 is rated for tires/wheels with over 100 psi needs, so if that's what you need, this will work superbly for you.

As far as your second question, there is not a 6-lug wheel for a 17-1/2 inch tire.
