Master Lock 2 Inch Ball Coupler Will Not Fit Over 2 Inch Ball
Updated 10/10/2013 | Published 10/08/2013 >
Question:
I have had trouble getting the hitch to drop over my 2inch ball. Eventually, I was able to do so by removing the inner spring between the coupler and latch. Can you advise as to what I might be doing wrong, and why I should have this problem? Even when I loosened the bottom nut next to the smaller spring the hitch would not pass over the ball. The latch would not move back far enough to allow passage. Thank you.

You should not have to remove the bottom part of the coupler to attach the coupler to the ball so something seems to be amiss. Double check the top of the coupler to make sure it is designed for a 2 inch ball and not a 1-7/8 inch ball. If fine-tuning the bolt does not fix the issue there could be something machined wrong with the coupler and it will need to be replaced.
You can also try lubricating the latching mechanism and the ball using ball grease # 58117. Make sure it is clean first because a foreign object could be jamming up the mechanism. If nothing seems to work then the coupler will need to be replaced. I have included a link to all of the straight tongue couplers that fit on a 2 inch ball.
