Recommended Replacement For 6 Gallon Atwood Water Heater
Updated 05/31/2022 | Published 05/28/2022 >
Question:
Good afternoon, My RV water heater is finished and would like to know what you recommend. Right now in the RV is an Atwood G6A-7 6 gallons. Should I just replace the tank ? Should I go with one that can be electric and gas? Or should I go with a tankless one? My rough opening is 12 1/2 inches high by 16 inches wide. Thanks for the help

I definitely recommend going with a tankless water heater to replace your Atwood G6A-7 6-gallon heater. Tankless heaters really are better in every way, particularly due to the fact they give you hot water right away, so you aren't standing around waiting for the water to warm up. Due to this, they also conserve energy much better, and are simpler to use with their wall controls
The best option for this is a water heater from Fogatti, which comes in either white or black:
- White: Fogatti RV Tankless Water Heater - Gas - Automatic Pilot # LSB64FR
- Black: Fogatti RV Tankless Water Heater - Gas - Automatic Pilot # LSB44FR
You'll also need a pressure relief valve for the installation, the Camco RV Water Heater Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve # CAM10423.
The only thing to keep in mind is you're going to have to have some trim added or built in to accommodate any replacement for the 6-gallon Atwood heaters, as they had quite wide (18" wide x 14" tall) doors. These Fogatti heaters have 14-15/16" tall x 14-15/16" wide doors.
As far as overall measurements, the Fogatti heaters are 15" tall x 15" wide x 14-3/8" deep, compared to the 12-1/2" tall x 16" wide x 18" deep measurements of your Atwood, so you'll just want to be sure you can account for that bit of extra height.
