Question:
Hello. I have a 15’ GMC Sierra 1500 with a 3.5” suspension/knuckle lift and 34” off-road tires and I’m debating between either the 5” or the 7” hitch. My current hitch receiver height is 22” from ground to top of receiver hole. I can’t really focus down to 1 trailer size as I haul many different trailers and don’t know about future trailers. I lean towards 7” just going off of a most common trailer tongue height I feel like is about 15” which 22-15= gives me 7” but I definitely don’t want it dragging the ground or if I hit a bump or going up/down a hill or boat dock ramp, etc. so just seeing what you thought or if you knew what average hitch someone with a lift kit and hitch receiver height of 22” if they get the 5” or 7” . Thank you

The average trailer coupler height is in the neighborhood of 16-19 inches. What I'd recommend you do is put the various trailers you tow up on their jack so the frame is level to the ground, and measure their coupler height (see linked article). If none of them are lower than 15 inches, you can go with the 5 inch drop Tow & Stow, part # BWTS10037B. This will leave you about 1 inch taller than the level trailer coupler, but the rear of the truck will squat a little bit with the trailer hitched up, so that will definitely place you close enough.
If the lowest trailer coupler height is lower than 15 inches above the ground, I'd recommend going with the 7 inch drop model, part # BWTS10040B.
