Troubleshooting Wiring for Coach Step Not Showing Power
Updated 05/23/2022 | Published 05/22/2022 >
Question:
I used a volt meter to figure out a power issue with the chassis wiring. Red wire should be a 12-14v output, but it reads between 1v and 5v. problem 1 identified. Problem 2: Purple wire when connected will blow the 7.5 Switch Fuse when switch is turned on. Disconnect purple wire, switch works just fine. Problem 3: White wire at switch kills power to output wire when switched on. Remove wire and switch has power again.... really wierd. White wire has no power, and should energize when connected, but doesnt. Just blows the 7.5 switch fuse.

Thanks for the info! It sounds like you have a Coach Step that uses the Control Module # LC301702. I'm attaching a cutout from the manual for the Coach Steps that shows what connections are what - it looks like you've done a good job at labeling pretty much everything!
Usually when you see weird stuff with power (especially a blown fuse) the first culprit to check is the ground. Check the grounds (green wires) and make sure they are securely connected to a clean, bare-metal surface. Any corrosion or even paint can cause electricity to act weird.
If all of that still looks good then let me know and I can see about any other troubleshooting steps me may have.
