The fan will no longer turn. Can I replace the fan motor or do I need a new unit?

The 6600R does not have replacement parts, so a new unit is indeed necessary since the fan no longer works on the vent. So you do have a few options, depending on if you want a manual or powered lift, and if you want a remote for ease of use:
