What Tire Chains do You Recommend for My 2020 Ford Explorer with 255/55-20 Tires?

Question:

Hello, I am looking for a quality set of chains not cables for my Explorer. Tire size is 255 55 R 20. Manual warns only to use chains that are 10 mm or less. Can you please give me some options that work?

For a great set of tire chains that fit your 2020 Ford Explorer with standard 255/55-20 tires, I recommend the pewag All Square Snow Tire Chains - Square Link - Reversible - 1 Pair # PWE2228S. Not only do these chains have a thickness of only 5.6mm, they also are rated for on-road and off-road use.

I went ahead and looked up your owner's manual, and Ford recommends using the chains only on the rear wheels. Also, since Ford states that you should use tire chains that do not include self-tensioners, these chains fulfill that requirement as well. As with all tire chains, I recommend consulting with the owner's manual to make sure you are following all of the manufacturer's guidelines.
