What Brake Controller Do You Recommend for a 2011 Ram 1500?

Question:
Hello. We have a customer with a 2011 Ram 1500 SLT Big Horn. VIN 1D7RV1GT5BS641673. According to the build sheet, it has factory towing with both 4-flat and 7-round connectors. He confirmed having the connectors. He wants us to install a trailer brake controller so he can tow a horse trailer and 16 ft. flatbead, tandem axle. Looks like lotsa options, what would be a good, simple to operate, plug-and-play controller for this? Should we need any other adapters etc.? Thanks

We definitely have a solution for your customer. If your customer has a 4-way and a 7-way installed on his vehicle, he does have his 2011 RAM 1500 SLT Big Horn prepped for a brake controller to use with his trailer.
If your customer is comfortable with using an app on a smart phone, by far the easiest controller to install is the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 2 Axles # C51180. With the Echo, there is no complicated install and no bulky cab-mounted unit. You simply plug in the unit into the 7-way and download the app to activate on your phone. The Echo is completely monitored using a smart device. There are no other adapters needed.
If your customer is looking for more of a traditional controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This controller requires mounting into the dashboard of your vehicle near the steering wheel. It is a great choice if your customer is not comfortable with using a smartphone to monitor the controller. If you go with the Prodigy, you also need the Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3021-P to complete the installation.
I went ahead and attached videos of all of these products for you to check out.
