Im new to the gooseneck ball set up, always had a 5th wheel hitch set up. What locks this ball into place once I it into the center hole? Thanks

The ball locks into place once the handle is folded down. The handle locks in the horizontal position to prevent accidental unlatching. This engages the built-in-ball-bearing system that holds the ball in place inside the receiver. I have attached a video and around the 45 second mark you'll see this demonstrated.
